Abstract

The grammatical study in “Tuhfat al-Muaarrab wa Turfat al-Mughrab” is a research into an unknown book that contains various linguistic topics. The grammatical topic was the focus here. The author of the book is Abdul-Muneem bin Salih al-Teemi, born and died in Egypt (547-633 A.H.). His teacher was Ibn Berri, died in 582 A.H., and his only student was “Hafi al-Raas al-Nahawi”, died in 693 A.H.

The author has other manuscripts that has not been verified nor printed. He enjoyed an outstanding scientific place at his time. He took the lead after the death of his teacher Ibn Berri.

The research falls into an introduction, outlining the research, and list of contents, followed by the preliminaries in which the researcher talked about the life of the author and the book. Chapter One deals with the grammatical approach of the author. Chapter Two deals with the “noun” sections in the book. Chapter Three deals with the “verb” and the “article”.

The research ends with the conclusion and findings, followed by the list of references.

The main findings are:

1-   “Tuhfat al-Muaarrab wa Turfat al-Mughrab” is an unknown book that only saw the light recently;

2-   The approach of the author is visual depicted through the visual references and terminology;

3-   If we put the grammatical references of the author in a balance, not mentioning his references would offset mentioning them;

4-   There were prominent grammatical phenomena used by the author, like interpretation, the reason and the subject;

5-   If we put the author’s reference to texts into the shape of a pyramid, we find the Holly Quran at the top, followed by poetry and verse;

6-   The author showed wide imagination in using the right example when proving a judgment.
