abstract
The present study was included sixty patients with type II diabetes
mellitus(T2DM) with mean duration of 10 ± 7 years (20male and 40
female) and thirty apparently healthy individuals with mean age of 55 ±
5.7 attending al Hussain medical city in Karbala province, from May to
August 2013. The patients were non-smoker, don’t have any history of
chronic disease and using Glucophage and daonil as drug.
The results was shown significantly decrease at P ≤ 0.05 in the percent of
phagocytosis in T2DM patients 62% ± 0.06 , 69% ± 0.44 group1 &
group2 respectively as compared with control whereas the percent was
82% ± 0.24 .
Extracellular and intracellular free radicals level such as superoxide
dismutase (SOD3 & SOD1), nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde
(MDA) was determined and the results was shown elevated extracellular
free radicals in patients (0.019±0.008, 0.44±0.15, 10.6±6.1), (0.021±0.03,
0.34±0.12, 9.2± 1.3) group1 & group2 respectively as compared with
control (0.011±0.007, 0.33±0.17, 6.8±4.5), while the reverse occurs in the
case of intracellular SOD1 and NO which shows a decrease in T2DM
patients.
Complement components C3, C4 and C- Reactive protein was
estimated and the results was shown positive relationship between FBS
and C3 , C4 concentration also the results show high mean concentration
of C3, C4 & CRP in group1 (142mg/dl, 25.2mg/dl, 6.45mg/dl), group2
(143.3mg/dl, 29.4mg/dl, 5.9mg/dl) as compared with control
(139.3mg/dl, 26.3mg/dl, 4.5mg/dl).
summary
Also blood urea, uric acid and createnin concentrations were
estimated and the results shown high mean concentration of urea
(32.29mg/dl, 30.84mg/dl) in group1, group2 respectively as compared
with control group (26.88mg/dl). And there is apositive correlation
between FBS and blood urea, while there is anegative correlation
between FBS and uric acid, criatenine .
Enzymatic methods were used to determine fasting blood sugar
concentration (FBS), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high
density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low
density lipoprotein (VLDL),and the results shown increased
concentration of TC, TG, LDL, VLDL(208±69.34 , 200.2±69.95,
126±70.93, 40.0±13.99), (168.3±42.7, 189±53.15, 96.1± 53.1, 37.8±
14.5)in group1 & group2 respectively as compared with control(154.4±
37.6 , 141.3±41.8 , 53.1± 40.8 , 28.6± 8.4 ). While HDL concentration
was decreased in patients as compared with control.
Also there was positive correlation between FBS and TC, TG, LDL,
