Abstract
This study entitled ” The Deep structure in Arabic : Discourse and Procedure ” deals with the concept of ( The deep structure ) which is one of the main corner stones of ” The Transformational generative theory ” by ( Noam Chomsky ) . The study aims at analyzing and describing the Modern Arabic studies .
The study is divided into an introduction , Four chapters and a conclusion . Each chapter consists of two section . The first chapter is an introductory one entitled ” The Deep structure : its concept , functions and assumptions ” . The first section deals with ” The concept of the deep structure ” . The second section deals with ” The functions of the deep structure and its reasons and assumptions .
The second chapter deals with ” The historical roots of the deep structure ” . The first section deals with ” ( The indirect roots ) , the origin of the ( deep structure ) in Arabic ” . The second section deals ” ( The direct roots ) , the thought origins of the ( deep structure ) ” .
The third chapter deals with ” Transformation of the deep structure in the Transformational generative theory ” which is the model of Grammatical structures , 1957 , the ideal theory 1965 and the model of the ideal theory extended 1972 with its adaptation 1981 . The second section is entitled ” The models of the Transformational generative theory in Arabic ” .
The last chapter focuses on the final stage of the Transformational generative theory , which is called ” The minimalist program ” . This , however, has been the significant development relating to ( The deep structure ), this is ” substitute pf deep structure ” which in the main concern of this chapter . As for the little of the first section , it is ” The minimalist program : the transformation techniques and the ways they operate ” . And as for the second investigation , it concerns ” the minimalist program in the Arabic language ” .
The calculation of the study include the fact that the deep structure has its equal in the ancient Arabic language . It also comes to the conclusion that the Arabic linguistic studies are on equal footing with those theories of the modern linguistic studies . This includes the Transformational generative theory . This is charactened by being modernized though it is not fully equal to the current advancement in this field of study .
