                                                                                                                                              Abstract:

Arabic literature has been and is still inexhaustible stream. It provides us with its essential jewelries along time and eras. The book ‘ Al Dur Al Feread we Baitul Al Qasead ‘ is one of these precious gems that kept on shelf for a long time and was about to be forgotten. This evoked some men to lighten its face and return its elegance. Thus, Dr. Fuad Sterkean relived to this eternal book by publishing it with its original manuscript, while Dr. Kamil Selman Al Jebouri verified, typed and printed it as its current shape. What distinguishes this book is the bulkiness of its scientific material and its variety of poetry and verse. The book contained about twenty thousand metrical lines, in addition to the declarations and the artistic prose. The book’s author lived in the duration that followed Baghdad fall ( 656 H.), which is called the dark period. The book implied what lightens this darkness and reflects the scholars’ cultural and scientific lives.

The favor of crystalizing this subject after Allah Almighty is due to my respected supervisor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Hussein Abdullah Al Mehdawi who suggested the topic and showed the book significance that has never been studied before as well as the large number of the critical views that indicate the common critical views at that time.

The study plan divided the dissertation into two parts preceded by a preface which dealt briefly with some political, social. And scientific features of the author’s time, beside his literary and critical efforts in the book. The first chapter is devoted to his literary efforts in the book, it is divided into three chapters. The first chapter tackled the temporal, spatial, and objective tests. The second chapter tackled the critical criteria that the author relied on in his poetic selections. The third chapter is about the prose atrs in the book, which in turn has two sides: the declaration and the artistic prose.

The second part studied the author’s critical efforts in the book in two chapters. The first chapter is about the literary critic directions in the book. These are the linguistic critic, rhetoric critic, and the metrical critic. The second chapter studied the critical issues in the book including the poetic plagiarism issue, the literary balance issue, and the ancient and innovative issue. This was followed by the most important research results.

The references adopted in the current study varied to include books of literature, conclusions, biography books, some references that are interested in the critical side of the literary studies, university dissertations, and periodicals which all implied in the bibliography.

However, I would like to thank deeply my supervisor Prof. Dr. Muhammed Hussein Abdullah Al Mehdawi for his great efforts and valuable time. He was indeed a brother and a friend rather than a mere master and a wise man. I got much benefit from him not only in the research but in all my studying life for he left prints on my writing style. I pray Allah to save and bless him.

Finally, I do not claim perfection in this work, since perfection is for Allah alone, but I did my best. My last pray is All praise is due to God, creator of the creation Prayer and peace be upon our master and prophet Mohammed and his progeny.
